72 Hour Kits Near Completion- #8

Well, I have been working on these for a few days a little here and there. They are now completed with just a few things I will add over the next few weeks. We even completed a kit for Baby Titan! I feel much more prepared.

Baby Showers and More

Took some time the last week or so to do some fun gifts for a couple of friends in our ward. Last week it was Laura Kennedy's baby shower and so I gave her some handmade thank you cards, stamps, pen and onesies with a card that read "We want to be the 'onesies' to say congratulations!"

Then today I attempted to copy a gift that my neice Lacey made for McKinli's baby gift. Her's was darling with a large bath towel but mine didn't turn out as well so I made this one with 4 receiving blankets, four burp cloths, two outfits and a couple pair of socks. I just have to do something out of the norm!

72 Hour Kits-#8 to be continued

Sometime last week Matti and I took out our 72 hour kits to do a little updating! What we found was gross! I didn't realize that we had not updated the kits since 2003. Where did all the time go? Well, we had packed some dog food (which they encourage you to do if you have a pet) and weavel (sp?) had overtaken the dog food and made it's way throughout our 72 hour backpacks. Luckily, I had purchased some new bags which you can either roll with a handle (like a suitcase) or strap allow you to put on your back like a pack. Way cool and I got them on sale at Big 5 for under $30 each. So we cleaned up the stuff we could salvage, washed up the clothing and made a list of things we still need to add. We needed to re-do the "milk carton" 3 day menu and so that is what I did today. On the weekend I purchased what we needed and today put together the milk carton meals. Tomorrow I will add them to the kit and make some other changes (watch for update tomorrow). Here is what the kit looks like and I will send you the link to the menus if you just leave a comment with your email address. Since re-certifying with CERT in Riverdale, I have been eager to make sure my emergency preparedness is updated. I can sleep a little easier now! :)

Wall of Friends-#13

A few months after I moved into my home here in Riverdale (711 W. 4100 S), I put up some vinyl lettering on my bedroom wall above my bed. I have tons of pics of family and etc throughout my home but I wanted a place to put pics of my friends. They have been such an important part of my life!! It has taken me almost two years to complete this project...procrastination...but I finally did it. I envisioned it much better but the what I didn't project was the feeling I would have when I went in my room. I truly feel surrounded by wonderful friends. They say you are lucky if you have a couple true friends. I think I was blessed very abundantly with many more. I love you guys! Here is a picture of the wall shelf.

Power 90-#1

I am getting a late start but this is where I got the 90 day idea. I also heard that the Marines can make a young boy a man in 90 days through their boot camp. I hope mine is not as intense but I hope to see some results with weight, inches, body fat and muscle tone. I highly recommend any program from Beachbody. Contact me if you want to try any of their products. I can get you great pricing! I have weighed and measured and will let you know where I am at the end of the 90 days.

Maddox Ranch House-#70

One of my simplier things on my list is to go to Maddox Ranch House for lunch. My mom, sister, McKinli and Titan and I all went today. It was a spontaneous trip for my mom and sister and we had a great lunch. Love the chicken fried steak, rolls and etc there. No dessert...too full!

12 Temples in 12 weeks-#52

One of my spiritual goals for the 90 day challenge is to visit all twelve Utah LDS temples in the twelve weeks. Of course, I started with the closest one, Ogden. It was a rainy day and I decided that it would be a great day to spend at the temple. I had some great experiences I wouldn't have had if I had chosen another day or time. It was very rewarding and uplifting!

My Friend Clara-#80

In the summer of 2005 I felt impressed to ask a great friend of mine, Clara Larsen, if it would be OK if I came over and videotaped her life story. She had quite a childhood and because she was such a positive person she did not want to dwell on it and therefore had never told her children much about it. She first said "no" and then called back and said that she had prayed about it and that she would like me to come over. So for a few Sundays I went over with a list of questions and my video camera and recorded her answers. She sold her home, moved and became ill and we were not able to complete the list of questions. The tapes sat in a drawer and before long she had passed away. I miss her!! I told her family I would send the tapes to them but then life got crazy. Every once in awhile I would think about it but for the last few weeks it has really been something I felt I should do. I had the address to her son in AZ but that was it. I wasn't sure where I even had the address written down. I kept procrastinating. When I decided to clean my closets and drawers for the 90 day challenge, I found her funeral program with the address listed. I watched the tapes one last time and cried! I then quickly packaged them up and placed a phone call to her son to make sure he was still at this address. They were moving in three weeks and I am so fortunate that I was impressed to get this completed before they moved and I would no longer know where to send them. I hope they meant as much to her family as they did to me. One of her famous sayings that I never want to forget is, "You and the Lord are the majority in ANY situation". I love you Clara.

Cleaning of the Closets-#6

I took a couple of days and went through EVERY closet and drawer in my house and de-junked. Wow! Did it feel wonderful! This included kitchen, pantry, coat closets, walk-in closets and even my crawl space. I also sorted all the individual and family pictures into large plastic containers. I have not completed any scrapbooking since my divorce 12 years ago. Just not enough hours in the day. These bins contain pictures and other treasures from each of the girls, family and friends. This may look like your BEFORE picture but for me this was so refreshing.

Letter to President Monson-#66

I have always wanted to write a letter to Pres. Monson in behalf of those who are single moms and struggle with how we can make it financially and spiritually. I guess I wanted to see if he could offer us some advice. Maybe I just wanted a listening ear. I did write him and I did receive a letter in reply to my letter. It was signed by his personal secretary but it did give me the impression that he had talked with her as to how to answer my letter.

Swine Flu-#4

Shortly after posting the first entry on this blog and taking my before and after pictures (to be shown later), I came down with Swine Flu. Yes, can you believe it? It was WICKED! It took me several weeks just to feel better and good enough to go back to my goals. My first thought was to start this blog over but I wanted to show that sometimes we do set our goals and life happens and we have to be flexible and re-adjust. I will not delete the last post but will start the 90 days over. My end date will now be September 4, 2009.

The hardest part is not beating ourselves up. While laying there I thought I was truly going to die...don't laugh...several in Utah have died...I decided that if I only had 90 days to live..what would be on my wish list of things to do, accomplish, finish, and experience. I made my list and I will be posting those as well as my progress with getting back in shape. So Day One of the 90 days was today and I worked on typing my old journal entries into LDS Journal.com so that I can have them in order and not in tons of different places on different types of paper. This is what my journal looked like at the start! I will give you the AFTER picture when I have completely updated it. This is my Sunday project each Sunday until complete.
